As the North East's biggest trade union, GMB launched a major campaign at Alcan in Lynemouth, Northumberland. The GMB Union has called the campaign at Alcan "Save Our Smelter" (SOS).

The GMB trade union are asking all Alcan employees, residents and businesses in Northumberland to support the campaign by signing their petition and displaying SOS posters.

The GMB will be presenting the petition to the Government early in the New Year and believe this will show the strength of feeling of the public and businesses in Northumberland to keep the smelter open.
