23/03/2010 - Gaming Industry Workers to Benefit From Gambling Commission Hotline Request From GMB Casino Workers
Following request from GMB casino workers for the Gambling Commission to etablish great communication structures between the Commission and gaming sector workers, the Gambling Commission has now agreed that all gaming workers who may wish to highlight incidents of concer that may occer within their workplace will shortly have the opportunity to do so using a confidential hotline. This hotline will be available to workers within casinos, bookmakers, bingo halls and across all areas for which the Gambling Commission has responsibility. Read more here.....

nPower Branch wins award
At Congress in June the nPower branch committee was proud to be awarded the GMB Outstanding Achievement Award for their commitment and dedication to GMB and the fantastic work that they have done recently. The committee includes Branch Secretary Michael Hunt of Cleveland, Sharon McGee from Tyne & Wear, Stuart Gilhespy of Newcastle upon Tyne and Donna Couzens from Durham.
The award, presented by GMB National President Mary Turner was for their outstanding performance in increasing the branch membership from around 50 to over 1000 in around 18 months – a fantastic achievement within such a timescale. The nPower branch has also been nominated for the TUC Organising Award 2009.
Tom Brennan, GMB Regional Secretary said, “It was with enormous pleasure that the GMB Northern Region put forward NPower Branch for this GMB achievement award and even greater pleasure to be able to present the committee with the winners award for their outstanding work and contribution to the Labour Movement. Well GMB is today saying thank you on behalf of all those people who have been helped by the NPower Branch committee.”
